Foot and Ankle
Raised in the metro Detroit area—an environment known for its grit, resilience, and strong work ethic—Emily Kempton, PA-C developed early values rooted in dedication and service. Her father worked for the UAW throughout her childhood, and watching his commitment and tireless effort to provide for their family left a lasting impression that continues to shape her approach to patient care today.
As the third oldest of nine children, caring for others was a natural part of everyday life. This early responsibility fostered compassion, patience, and a deep sense of responsibility for those around her. She initially began her college studies pursuing a degree in education, driven by a desire to help and guide others.
While completing her undergraduate degree at Rochester College, she began working as a medical assistant at Michigan Foot & Ankle to help pay for school—an experience that unexpectedly changed the course of her career. Through hands-on patient care, she discovered a true passion for medicine and knew she wanted to dedicate her life to helping others heal. This realization led her to pursue her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at University of Detroit Mercy. Here she continued her passion for education serving as a student instructor in the anatomy lab, helping fellow students build a strong foundation in medical knowledge. She was also nominated as student body president where she advocated for her fellow students on campus and fostered community service opportunities for her class to give back.
Following her graduation, she began her Physician Assistant career in internal medicine, where she gained valuable experience managing complex and chronic medical conditions. She worked closely with patients to treat multiple acute and chronic illnesses, emphasizing education, prevention, and long-term health management. This experience strengthened her ability to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care and to understand how systemic health conditions impact overall well-being.
When Drs. Lefkowitz, Stock & Ward of Michigan Foot and Ankle, later sought to add a PA to the practice, she was eager to return to the specialty that first inspired her. Today, she is proud to care for patients in foot and ankle medicine, working alongside trusted specialists who are deeply committed to the health and well-being of their community. When Emily is not at the clinic, you can find her spending time with her husband and three children, trying new recipes, or planning their next Michigan summer camping trip.
